The Grammy Awards are a music honor presented by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, an association of American artists and engineers involved in the music industry. The name Grammy refers to the trophy awarded to the winner, a hand-crafted statuette depicting a gramophone.

The first Grammy Awards ceremony was held on May 4, 1959, to honor the musical achievements of artists for the year 1958. Along with the Oscars, Emmys, and Tony Awards, it is among the most important entertainment awards in the United States.
